Objective To explore the effect of non-alcoholic antibacterial mouthwash on newborn’s health during pregnancy. Methods A single-blind, randomized, controlled trial was designed. The pregnant women recruited at prenatal clinic of Leping MCH hospital from November 2013 to September 2014 were enrolled in the study. Divided into intervention group and control group. The pregnant women in the intervention group were given alcohol-free antibacterial mouthwash twice a day for health education. In the control group, the toothbrush toothbrush was given a toothbrush excuse for brushing for 3 min in the morning and evening, and the health education was conducted. Follow up up to 42 days postpartum, collect newborn health outcomes. Results There were no differences in Apgar score, birth weight, neonatal intensive care unit occupancy, neonatal pathological jaundice, neonatal pneumonia, neonatal respiratory distress syndrome and neonatal diarrhea among the two groups Statistical significance (all P> 0.05). Conclusions The use of mouthwash during pregnancy has not been found to have any impact on the health of newborns. In the future, a large sample size study is needed to explore this.
