桥牌是扑克的一种打法。桥牌作为一种高雅、文明、竞技性很强的智力游戏,以它特有的魅力称雄于各类牌戏。目前,桥牌已成为2002年亚运会和2004年奥运会的表演项目。现代桥牌被称为定约桥牌,是由一种叫“惠斯特”的纸牌游戏发展而来。“惠斯特”是17世纪以后流行于英国的一种4人扑克牌的玩法,据说是3名驻扎在印度的英国军官因牌手不够,把一家的牌摊开于桌上,由对家打,于是产生了“惠斯特”桥牌。后来,桥牌的雏形经过不断发展渐渐形成目前的打法及比赛规则。
