一粤剧和粤曲(包括潮剧和潮州歌册),是中国地方戏曲百家中唯一“曲同源,词同类,唱同音”的独有的戏曲和曲艺。北京流行京剧、评剧,也流行京韵大鼓、单弦、相声;东北流行吉剧、评剧,也流行二人转;中国其他各省流行的戏曲和曲艺,都是曲、词和唱迥然不同的品种,不经移植改编,不能互换演唱,所谓“性相近而习相远”。唯独粤剧粤曲,可以随手拈来,互换演唱。虽然有这“三同”,这对孽生兄弟却是同源同种而不同流的。历史上都是各自发展的两个不同的品类。本文着重从本世纪初至今粤剧剧目、粤曲曲目的演变,探讨二者的发展和走向。二本世纪初到二十年代,是粤剧(当时叫大戏)、粤曲的班本戏、班本曲(也可称传统剧、曲)时期。
