Objective To investigate the changes of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) concentration in children with various behavioral problems and its significance. Methods The Achen-bach Children’s Behavior Scale was used to screen and determine the 5-HT levels of peripheral blood in 30 children with behavioral problems according to the factor classification. The results were compared with those of 30 normal children. Results There was no significant difference in the concentration of 5-HT between children with behavioral problems and normal children (P> 0.05). The concentrations of 5-HT in children with hyperactivity disorder and normal children were significantly lower than those in normal children (P <0.05) Type factor group and the outward-oriented factor group were significantly higher (P <0.05); 5-HT concentration in children with behavioral problems increased with age and normal children increased. Conclusions The concentration of 5-HT in peripheral blood is related to behavioral problems, which may be one of the material bases for children’s behavioral problems.
