本期推荐人、艺术家范勃被公认为中国新写实主义的代表人物之一。他的人物画用油画语言来叙述当代中国人的生存状态和精神困惑:神情冷漠,却能触动心灵;人物造型疏离,却可轻易攫取观者的目光;他的风景画以萧索写意的空寒情调转换了传统水墨的色感与精神品格。可是他在意的从来不是画什么,而是如何画的问题,是对绘画语言本身的思考。年为广州美术学院油画系主任,他此次推荐的四位作轻艺术家正是把这一点作为自己艺术探索的主题。
