汉代艺术中常见一种肩背出翼、两腿生羽、大耳出颠的人,此人就是文献中所说的羽人,即飞仙。《楚辞·远游》:“仍羽人于丹丘兮,留不死之旧乡。”王逸注:“《山海经》言:有羽人之国,不死之民。或曰:人得道,身生毛羽也。”洪兴祖补注:“羽人,飞仙也。[1]”仙的概念在汉代文献中屡见不鲜,飞仙图像亦广泛出现在汉代艺术中,其几乎遍及于汉代艺术的全部,贯穿于汉代艺术的始终,构成汉代艺术的一项重要母题,在汉代思想与信仰世界具有特殊的象征意义。
