Since two years ago, “relay project” - open recruitment examination, merit-based employment of college graduates as village officials are being carried out all over. Many aspiring college students in rural areas have enthusiastically devoted themselves to this trendsetting career. With their high education and high knowledge, they have infused fresh blood into rural grassroots organizations and accelerated the pace of rural modernization. Recently, however, we have heard this unfortunate news. In some places, under the new round of township and village planning, university village village officials are ruthlessly reduced and laid-off as the village groups recombine. In this regard, we organized special reports “Why college students village officials be streamlined.” It is not hard to see that there are many sharp problems in the work of organizing and personneling personnel in the grassroots-level workforce. We sincerely hope that such distressing things will not happen again. We should speed up building up a contingent of rural personnel so that we can meet the challenge after joining the WTO. --editor
