1949年3月,中共中央机关进入北平后,党组织决定香港达德学院教授狄超白(1910～1977)调任中央财政经济工作部统计处处长。1949年10月中央人民政府成立后,狄任中央财政经济委员会统计处处长(从这点可以认为他是新中国成立后第一任统计部门领导人)。1952年8月国家统计局成立后,薛暮桥任国家统计局局长,狄任国家统计局综合处处长。1954年春调离国家统计局。狄超白在统计机构领导岗位工作了五年,主要负责组建统计机构、1950年全国工矿普查和劳动调查以及建立统计制度等工作。
In March 1949, after the central authority of the CPC entered Peiping, the party decided that Di Chaobai (1910 ~ 1977), a professor at the Hong Kong Dade Institute, was transferred to the director of the Census and Statistics Department of the Central Financial and Economic Work Department. After the establishment of the Central People’s Government in October 1949, Di Ren, chief of the statistics department of the Central Financial and Economic Commission (from which point he could be considered the leader of the first statistical department after the founding of new China). After the establishment of the National Bureau of Statistics in August 1952, Xue Muqiao served as the director of the National Bureau of Statistics and as director of the comprehensive department of the National Bureau of Statistics. Spring 1954 moved away from the National Bureau of Statistics. Di Chaobai worked for leading positions in statistical agencies for five years, mainly responsible for the establishment of statistical agencies, the 1950 national industrial and mining census and labor surveys and the establishment of statistical system.
