2001年全国铁路建设计划安排将重点加快株六复线、宝兰复线、新长线、内昆线、秦沈客运专线、宁西线、京九铁路龙常段复线、渝怀线、洛湛通道等项目建设。抓紧宝成复线、包兰复线、黎湛复线、肖甬复线、芜湖长江大桥、青藏线西宁-格尔木段扩能、郑州东-郑州西复线、外福电化、梅坎线、南疆线、西康线、平齐线504桥等12个项目收尾销号。确保哈大电化、武广电化、兰烟复线、新长线、达万线、神延线、长荆线、水柏线、盘西电化等9个项目全部投产。计划全年新线铺轨1800km 投产2100km;复线铺轨570km 投产1100km;建成电气化铁路2400km
