双年展是国际流行的高阶当代视觉艺术展示机制,纵观当今世界一些有影响力的、重大的双年展事,自其创立以来其宗旨无不以展示当代世界艺术前沿的探索成就、促进跨国界的视觉艺术交流为己任。举办方多将其作为国际艺术交流的重要平台和民族文化及其精神产品输出的重要管道。因此双年展不仅通常能成为举办城市的重大艺术节日,更是展示当地视觉艺术新成就的窗口。在全球已有的200多个双年展中,“深圳国际水墨双年展”是仅有的以东方传统艺术媒材“水墨”命名的双年展,这显然由其“展现水墨艺术的当代形态,持续研究传统水墨画在当今文化语境中的生存和转型课题,推动水墨艺术以鲜明的时代特色、民族身份和更新的活力走向世界”的宗旨所决定。从此前已经举办的六届展览来看,“深圳国际水墨双年展”确实是在抱定自己的宗旨,艰难地一步一步迈向自己的目标。水墨画在
