The C_1 chemistry with CO / H_2, CH_3OH, CH_4 and CO_2 as the main raw materials will rise at the end of this century or the beginning of the next century. The development of C_1 chemistry can ease the depletion of oil resources crisis and prolong the indispensable energy and chemical production of mankind. This article outlines the development status and research direction of C_1 chemistry and presents the basic framework of C_1 chemistry. At the same time, it expounds the importance of developing C_1 chemistry from the aspects of energy, resources, economy and ecology. The future world must develop C_1 chemistry, and C_1 chemistry will surely benefit the future world.
