In the novel Jane Eyre, the author Charlotte Bronte dissolves into a large number of his own life experiences, and at the same time, he also expresses his own resistance to society and longing for a free and happy life by means of characters in the novel. There are three main female characters in the novel: Jane Eyre, Bertha Mason, and Helen Burns. By analyzing their respective personality traits and their mutual relations, this article points out that the three of them have the author’s own shadow: Jane Eyre is a portrayal of the author’s real life; Bertha reflects the author’s dissatisfaction and anger toward society; and Helen’s dream The paradise is exactly what the author has been looking forward to.
