The special natural geographical and geological environment of Tibet, in combination with increasingly intensified human (engineering and economic) activities, is responsible for the increasingly serious landslide disasters in terms of scope, scale, frequency and degree of damage. The article presents systematically the development, distribution and major damaging effects of landslide geological disasters in Tibet, provides a preliminary forecast on the tendency of landslide formation, and proposes some strategies and measures for preventing & reducing the disasters. It may serve as a basis for decision making by governments at various levels in their fighting against landslide disasters.
