2007年12月18日,山西省委就洪洞煤矿事故提名免去临汾市市长职务,理由是12月5日23时15分,山西省临汾市洪洞县瑞之源煤业有限公司新窑煤矿井下发生特大瓦斯爆炸事故,造成105名矿工遇难、18人受伤。与上述事件有关联的,是中纪委作出《安全生产领域违纪行为适用〈中国共产党纪律处分条例〉若干问题的解释》,这对于严明纪律,解决党员领导干部不负责任、失职、渎职问题,从根本上遏制重特大事故的发生,无疑具有重大意义。
