１９９６年是我国实施“九五”计划和２０１０年远景目标纲要的第一年。在这一年里，各条战线涌现出了许多先进人物和先进集体。为表彰他们做出的突出贡献，全国总工会决定在今年“五一”节前夕，向１０００名先进个人和３００个先进集体分别颁发“五一劳动奖章”和“五一劳动奖状”，并推选出１９９７年度“全国十大杰出工人”。这十大杰出工人是各省（市、区）总工会从近年来全国劳动模范或全国“五一劳动奖章”获得者中推选产生的。他们身上所具有的艰苦奋斗、求实进取、开拓创新的创业精神，爱国奉献、爱厂如家、爱岗敬业的主人翁精神，一心为公、不计个人得失的无私奉献精神，是在改革开放和现代化建设中我国工人阶级精神风貌的集中体现。为了弘扬这种精神，推进向他们学习的活动，我们将从本期起陆续刊登１９９７年全国十大杰出工人的先进事迹
The year 1996 is the first year for China to implement the Ninth Five-Year Plan and the 2010 Outline Vision. During this year, many advanced figures and advanced collectives emerged on all fronts.
