北京科技大学的网络建设开始于1996年,当时采用的是技术先进的622M ATM网络。网络主干采用4台3Com的ATM交换机CB7000组成环形结构。在网络平稳运行了5年以后,由于学生数量的增加,学校教学和科研水平的提高,原有网络已经暴露出一些问题。学校决定进行网络的升级改造,选用了3Com公司的系统产品,网络中心新增加一台核心骨干交换机Switch 4007,通过千兆光纤和原有的CB9000连接,形成北京科技大学校园网的网络核心,共同分担整个网络的流量。刚建成的新办公楼楼层交换机采用SuperStack 3 Switch 4400,各楼层分别放置1台SuperStack 3 Switch 4400,上连采用千兆光纤模块。在学校的逸夫楼和五十栋这两座楼中采用了相似的组网结
