Lei Zhenzhou, deputy director of the Technology Research Institute of the Telecommunications Research Institute, pointed out: At present, the two major trends toward NGN are very compelling: one is convergence and the other is M2M applications. The first is fusion. Convergence is becoming the main theme of telecom industry, technology tends to converge, the network tends to converge, and the business tends to converge. Convergence provides users with all forms of business and one-stop services, enabling users to enjoy the same services whether in a fixed or mobile environment. Convergence also gives operators an opportunity to increase their revenue and reduce the risk of introducing new services, especially for full-service operations. Second, machine to machine (M2M). Because another feature of next-generation services is ubiquity. That is, the object of communication services extends from one person to any one thing, when network technology is ubiquitous. The implications of ubiquity far exceed users’ ability to surf the web anytime, anywhere, and users can feel the presence of the web and the convenience that the web brings to them anytime, anywhere.
