Objective To investigate the prognostic significance of obesity on triple-negative breast cancer. Methods Totally 190 patients with triple-negative breast cancer who were confirmed by pathology were divided into three groups according to body mass index (BMI): normal group (33 cases), overweight group (44 cases) and obesity group (113 cases). To study the clinical characteristics of patients in each group and the relationship between obesity and total survival time and disease-free survival time of triple-negative breast cancer. Results The median age at diagnosis of breast cancer was 48 years and the median follow-up time was 45 months. Patients who were overweight or obese had a larger mass (P = 0.02) and a later T stage (P = 0.001) than their normal counterparts. Survival analysis showed no significant difference in survival and disease-free survival between normal and overweight and obesity groups (P = 0.166 and P = 0.325, respectively). Conclusions In triple-negative breast cancer patients, although obesity is related to tumor size and T stage, there is no correlation with patient’s total survival time and disease-free survival time.
