粉末冶金制品内部存在一定的孔隙。即使经过复压复烧,乃至热锻的高密度制品,也仍有孔隙存在,这是粉末冶金制品的显著特点之一。由于存在孔隙,特别是与外部连通的孔隙,极易被液态物质所填充。这对于减摩材料,是一大优点,可以填充以润化油脂起自动润滑的作用。然而对于需进行表面化学处理(如电镀、发蓝等)的制品,则因其化学药液的浸入会造成内部腐蚀,从而使得粉末冶金制品的表面化学处理较为困难和复杂。用硬脂酸锌等物质对粉末冶金制品浸渍填充、堵塞孔隙,而后进行电镀、已属成功办法。
