Objective To investigate the effect of obesity on obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and blood pressure. Methods Blood pressure, waist circumference and intra-abdominal fat were measured in 261 OSAS patients. The relationship between obesity and sleep-related indicators and blood pressure was analyzed to explore the role of intra-abdominal fat in OSAS. Results The prevalence of hypertension in obese OSAS patients was significantly higher than that in OS-AS patients with normal body weight. Compared with <85 cm2 group, the intra-abdominal fat area ≥ 85 cm2 group had higher systolic blood pressure and significant correlation with sleep monitoring Difference (P <0.01). Conclusion Obesity and intra-abdominal fat accumulation have significant effects on OSAS and blood pressure.
