The data analyzed in this paper are taken from the Third Edition of the “Directory of Abstracts and Indexing Services in the United Kingdom” for the purpose of a brief introduction to the UK’s Digest, an overview of Indexing Services, and in particular the development trends since 1983 , And focuses on the effectiveness of online services. The Directory attempts to become a guide to the second generation of the UK’s contemporary and effective services. The catalog lists all secondary services published in the UK in journals, print, microfiche and machine readable format for each of the services listed, including the subject area, geographical area, source
