This article describes the implementation of a device system for measuring the characteristics of a rotating blade (propeller) spectrum. The mission of this system is to measure the spectral characteristics with their absolute radar cross sections. Suitable for measuring static aircraft with rotary thrusters and lifting systems, the coherent continuous-wave heterodyne system is equipped with commercially available instruments and components. The unique feature of the device is the ability to measure the low Doppler frequency obtained by rotating the component at a very slow rate. When combined with a modern digital signal analyzer, the complex modulation spectrum of the target features can be displayed quickly and accurately. An example of the spectral features of the rotating components of a helicopter obtained from laboratory and outfield measurements confirm the system’s capabilities.
