三峡大学“水工结构工程”1994年获准为湖北省重点学科,1996年纳入国家教育部“211”工程建设项目并予以重点资助,2000年,经湖北省教育厅批准,在本学科点上设置“楚天学者计划”特聘教授岗位。本学科自1996年以来,年均科研经费400万元左右,其中自然科学基金、部级重大项目近800万元,承担长江三峡工程、清江水布垭工程等重大课题近1000万元,获得各类奖励18项,其中省部级科技进步奖4项。
