When Clinton was sworn in as the President of the United States on January 20, he stated that the mission of his new government is to “revitalize the U.S. economy and solve various social problems.” What is the American society that Clinton is facing? First, the labor force is growing slowly and the population is aging. The United States is an immigrant country with a population of 255 million, 3/4 are white, and 1 in 4 is a “minority”, ie African-American and Asian-born immigrants. In 1850, the average age of Americans was 18.9 years old, in 1950 it was 30.2 years old, and now it is 33.1 years old.
