When designing a hydraulic system, it is often important to predict pump performance. In addition, there is often some verification of centrifugal pumps in service, such as verifying that flow or manometer readings are accurate or verifying that the pump is operating in accordance with specifications. Occasionally there will be nozzle flowmeter plugging, or calibration error phenomenon. Sometimes the system components appear to be working properly, but their performance does not meet the rated standard. Therefore, various parameters of the pump need to be checked against more reliable readings, such as motor current (to aid in monitoring of the system). This article describes the BASIC program used on a personal computer is used to achieve the above purpose. It calculates: head, flow, pump efficiency (if the motor data is known); head, current and pump efficiency (if flow is known); total power consumption is a few kilowatts.
