按照考古学的一些基本准则:判断一处遗迹的时代,除了根据地层叠压关系以外,最主要的是依据是该处遗迹内出土的包含物。在利用包含物对遗迹进行断代时,需对遗迹内的包含物作全方位分析对比,而不能依据个别或部分器物来断定该处遗迹的时代。如果同一处遗迹内的包含物时代有早有晚,那么最晚的一件或一组器物就是该处遗迹的最早年代。《忠县哨棚嘴遗址发掘报告》没有明说秭归庙坪遗址H1、H2的年代问题,但结合考古学基本准则综合分析:给人的印象是秭归庙坪遗址H1、H2的年代属于屈家岭文化时期,或者H1、H2中至少有一组最晚的器物年代属于屈家岭文化时期。换句话讲,如果庙坪H1、H2中有器物年代晚于屈家岭文化时期,那么其时代就属于石家河文化时期,依次类推,哨棚嘴第二期遗存的年代就不属于屈家岭文化时期,定为石家河文化阶段较为合理。

In other words, if the artifacts in Miaoping H1 and H2 were later than the Qujialing period, their era belonged to the Shijiahe culture period, and so on. The remaining period of the second phase of the whistling mouth did not belong to the flexor Jia Ling culture period, as the Shijiahe cultural stage is more reasonable.
