由结核杆菌引起的结核病对哺乳类物,尤其是对灵长类动物危害极大.恒河猴因患结核病的死亡率仅次于细菌性痢疾.据报导,猿猴结核病的菌型分类为:人型,居首位,约占73%,牛型,占26%,禽型,仅占1%.由此可见,人型结核杆菌对恒河猴的威胁最大.生活在山林区的恒河猴,很少感染结核病,而经常活动(觅食)在村庄附近的恒河猴则增多了感染结核病的机会.在动物园内的观赏猴、感染结核病的机会更多.
