贾平凹自小说创作以来,一直尝试着从形而下到形而上的意象塑造,而《天狗》处于这两种尝试的过渡时期,具有着重大的意义。小说中的虫子意象深入人心,穿插在行文中与人物性格和人物命运息息相关。作者着眼于“蝈蝈”和“蝎子”这两种昆虫,照应着天狗的成长历程,为读者谱写了一部催人泪下的人生悲剧,同时也标志着作者对艺术探求的不断深入。
