2011年12月8日,中国工程院公布了2011年当选院士名单,中国计量科学研究院首席研究员李天初成功当选为中国工程院信息与电子工程学部院士。这是当年新增54名院士中唯一来自计量领域的人士,并成为继张钟华院士后,中国计量科学研究院第2位、全国质检系统的第3位院士。李天初是中国计量科学研究院首席研究员,国际时间频率咨询委员会中国代表,中国时间频率计量领域学科带头人之一。1981年以来,他一直在中国计量科学研究院从事时间频率基准、光电子计量、稳频激光和光干涉
On December 8, 2011, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the list of elected academicians in 2011. Li Tianchu, chief researcher of China National Institute of Metrology, was elected as an academician of the Department of Information and Electronic Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. This was the only 54 academicians from the metrology field that year, and became the second academician of China Metrology Institute and the third academician of the national quality inspection system after Zhang Zhonghua academician. Li Tianchu is chief researcher of China Institute of Metrology, China representative of the International Time Frequency Advisory Committee, and one of the academic leaders in the field of time and frequency measurement in China.
