Taiwan films were once brilliant in the 1970s, leaving many classic works. However, in the late 1980s, Taiwan films started to go downhill and once the golden age was gone. The deteriorating film industry environment led to a continuous decline in the number of producers, while losing a large number of local audience into the cinema, the movie market slump. By the 1990s, Taiwan films began to completely liberalize the importation of Hollywood films in the United States.
