锡铁山铅锌矿床位于青海柴达木盆地北缘EW向左行平移韧性剪切带与南祁连NW向隆起带的复合部位,构造形变强烈,隆起带原NW向片理与剪切带NW向S-面理叠加复合形成单一的NW向片理化带和A-褶皱(拉伸线理与褶皱枢纽平行,都呈NW走向)。铅锌矿体就位在上奥陶统滩间山群(O_3tn)绿片岩系,绿片岩系不整合覆盖在下元古界达肯大坂群(Pt_1dk)片麻岩、混合岩系之上,上部又被未变质的上泥盆统(D_3)紫色砂页岩和底砾岩所覆盖。含矿岩系上奥陶统滩间山群由基性夹中酸性的双峰式火山岩和中厚层状、条带状灰岩组成,经区域变质后成为灰绿色方解斜长绿泥片岩、石英绢云绿泥片岩和中厚层状、条带状不纯大理
