UNESCO’s 2004 International Literacy Awards were awarded to projects in China, Brazil and Mauritius. The “International Book Association Literacy Prize” was awarded to a non-governmental group in Mauritius called L’Edikasyon pu travayer. The two “Sejong King Literacy Prizes” were awarded to Alfabetizao Solidária of Brazil and the Leading Group of Literacy in Qinghai Province of China. The leadership team of the literacy work in Qinghai Province responds to the needs of the masses of people in remote areas and pays attention to women and ethnic minorities.
