The DLVO theory (The Denjaquin-Landauand Verwey-Overbeek Theory) is based on the model of the double-layer diffusion of colloidal systems, and mainly elaborates the theory of the cause of sol or suspension agglomeration instability and its influencing factors. The theory holds that the basic contradiction of the colloidal system is the conflict between dispersion and agglomeration. Because it is a thermodynamically unstable system, the tendency to coalesce is always greater than the tendency to disperse. The colloidal particles in the system are simultaneously subjected to two kinds of forces: one is the van der Waals attractive force that causes the particles to attract each other, and the other is that the particles are charged and surrounded by the “ionic atmosphere” composed of “counter ions”, and the ions are close together. The repulsion that appears when the “ion atmosphere” overlaps
