2016年6月1日,第二课堂杂志社特邀“试管婴儿之母”卢光琇教授率中信湘雅医学专家团队,来到湖南省涟源市杨市镇蓉峰村,与山区留守儿童共度“六一”儿童节,为农村的孩子们举办科普知识讲座。在捐赠仪式上,第二课堂杂志社向留守儿童捐赠了助学金、校服和《第二课堂》《中小学生防灾安全手册》等书籍。在杨市镇快溪中学。第二课堂杂志社邀请林戈教授为近千名中小学生举办了一堂主题为“遗传病与试管婴儿”的科普知识讲座。
