选择在1943年至1945年间发行的《紫罗兰》杂志的基础上来对沦陷时期的上海通俗文学进行某些探讨,大致出于以下几个方面的考虑:第一,这一时期由于政治、军事、经济上的种种原因,虽然期刊出版数量不少,~①但是很多存在时间和连续性都有限,《紫罗兰》在其中属于较有连贯性和影响力的一种,~②自1943年4月复刊,到1945年3月停刊,出版了18期。除最后一期因政局、物价、编辑者个人原因等较为延迟之外,其他17期基本能够按月刊行。《紫罗兰》在20至30年代初就曾经连续出版,在1925年12月到1930年6月之间曾共出刊四卷96号,具有较为广大的读者群,其中一部分读者成为了40年代复刊后的支持
