John Gaogley, editor of the United States Republic Day, published his “Report on Blacklist Activities: Volumes, Film, Volumes, Television and Broadcasting,” in late 1956. The six-hundred-page report gathered a wealth of fact-finding material on blacklisted U.S. movies, television and radio. Since the publication of this report, Gao Gelai has been fiercely attacked by the Hurst newspaper, and even the non-U.S. commission of inquiry has even announced the writer. Gogh’s report attracted wide attention. The report was also published in summary in the United States, “Workers’ Daily News.” The German film art magazine of the German Democratic Republic also gave an abstract introduction. Our main article here, written by two British film critics, is also taken from Gao’s report. The authors also cited in their articles first-hand materials from several Hollywood-based exiles in the UK. We are convinced that as long as McCarthyism still exists, the American people’s struggle against it will never stop.
