In many devices - such as light modulators, optical switches, photoreflectors, and sampling gates - linear electrical-optical effects are used to accomplish the various functions of optical and electrical signals in propagation and processing. The rapid development of ultra-fast electrical and opto-electronic devices has led to the development of new technologies in measurement. One of the most recent developments is the application of electro-optic effects, which, in combination with ultrashort laser pulses, can measure the transients of very high speed signals and the response speed of photodetectors and LEDs. In the report related to this new technology, it is talked about using a very short laser pulse as a light source for measurement.
