日本国立大学天文台建设在夏威夷的可见、红外大型望远镜(昴宿星团)迎来了第一熹微光。就是首次向已完成的望远镜导入天体光,进行各种调准、确认性能。这个阶段虽然还没有发挥出望远镜的实力,但可以确认出高性能。 在成像性能方面,在好的透明度下采用近红外(2μm波长)时可以得到0.3秒角(1秒等于1/3600度)的星像尺寸,可见光时(0.6μm)
