《沙箱》(1960)和《美国梦》(1961)使爱德华·阿尔比获得了荒诞派剧作家的声誉。其中《沙箱》的四个角色在《美国梦》中有所重复。这两部剧作并非现实主义作品,但都带有强烈的社会批判意味。剧中关于婚姻关系中的错位以及孤独的描述使阿尔比对于盲目追逐美国梦进行了更为有力地抨击。
Sandbox (1960) and American Dream (1961) earned Edward Albi the reputation of a ridiculous playwright. The “sandbox” of the four roles in the “American Dream” repeated. These two plays are not realistic works, but all have strong social criticism. The play’s dislocation and loneliness in marital relationships have made Albi more aggressively attacking the blind pursuit of the American dream.
