“80s to see Guangdong, 90s to see Pudong ”. This was a jester widely circulated in the second half of the last century. How does the economy of the Pearl River Delta develop when the Yangtze River Delta, which is dominated by Shanghai, grows thinly and steadily? How do we view the future status of Guangdong, the rise of the Yangtze River Delta, and the interrelationship between the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta? A series of questions involve not only ideology but also the basic ideas and strategic plans for the development of regional economy in the 21st century. To crack the mystery of these layers of economic structure, it is possible to find a clearer path only after looking to the urban background of China.
