Australian and Indonesian scientists found a prehistoric human fossil on Flores Island, a woman of only 0.91 meters tall and at least 20 years old, with a brain capacity that is only 1/4 of that of modern humans. Scientists named the fossil “Dwarf.” Subsequently, they found another six similar ancients. Scientists named the new species never discovered as “Flores.” Science magazine named it one of the top ten technological breakthroughs in 2004 as one of the most important discoveries in paleontology over the past 50 years that changed our understanding of human evolution.
