对于艺术家来说,传统犹如空气,提供他生命呼吸的来源。就艺术而言,传统构成了一个巨大的链条——人们总是将艺术家置放在一个艺术链条中来衡量。一个艺术家之所以强大,正是因为他处在这个链条中的某个核心环节,他决定了这个链条的编织方向。艺术史,就是这个不能中断的艺术链条的编织史。
For artists, tradition is like air, providing a source of breathing for his life. As far as art is concerned, tradition constitutes a huge chain - people always measure the artist’s placement in a chain of art. The reason why an artist is powerful is precisely because he is at a central part of the chain, which determines the direction in which the chain is woven. Art history is the weaving history of this unbroken art chain.
