Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a refractory disease with poor prognosis. In recent years, the epidemic has been expanding. The incidence has also rapidly increased. It is now known that besides high-risk groups such as homosexuals, intravenous drug addicts and hemophiliacs, AIDS is likely to occur in both sexes and infants in high-risk groups and after transfusions and plasma products; in addition, there is widespread misconception among people AIDS is contagious and has aroused the concern of many people and professionals. Unfounded fears are common, especially among hospital staff who may have had unexpected contact with AIDS patients or their specimens in hospitals.
