1980年7月,邓小平登上峨眉山。在下山途中,他看到一些陡峭的山坡上种了不少玉米,长得稀稀落落,就像癞痢头,便关切地说“这会造成水土流失,人摔下来更不得了,不要种粮啦,种树吧。”在狭窄的山路上,一位刚上山拜完菩萨的老阿婆告诉他:“托菩萨的福,今年收成还不错。”……后来,老阿婆得知和她说话的人是邓小平,连忙站起来,朝着邓小平走的方向拜了三拜:“你就是活菩萨哟!”
