Different levels of ineffective erythrocytic hematopoiesis caused by iron dynamics disorder is a common feature of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The nature and number of blast cells are important for the diagnosis and prognosis of MDS. There are two types of iron-capable particles within the cytoplasm of MDS erythrocytes: aggregation of ferritin and iron-loaded mitochondria.
