意大利是古代西方文明的发祥地之一,从古罗马时期到文艺复兴、乃至近代的文物古迹随处可见,然而目前意大利的文物保护工作却令人担忧。在文艺复兴的发源地佛罗伦萨,古老而雄伟的比蒂宫正经受着大气污染的侵蚀,建筑物上许多厚重的石块出现了裂痕,有些已风化损毁,有些则靠铁架支撑。在首都罗马,被看作是该城象征的古罗马圆形剧场遗址正处在车辆的包围之中,其侧面甚至被辟为停车场。罗马的几任市长都曾许诺在遗址周围实施交通管制,但到目前为止不仅成效甚微,而且对这座古代遗址的损害却日甚一日。地下火车终日轰鸣,震撼着古老的墙体;汽车排出的尾气烟尘附着在石质拱门上;时常暴发的洪水与潮湿的空气侵蚀着砖房;杂草在高大的檐口生根……
Italy is one of the cradles of ancient Western civilization. From ancient Rome to Renaissance and even modern monuments everywhere, however, the protection of Italian cultural relics is worrying at present. In Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, the ancient and magnificent Getty Palace is experiencing atmospheric pollution. Many of the massive stones on the building have been cracked. Some have been weathered and destroyed, while others have been supported by iron frames. In the capital city of Rome, the site of the ancient Roman amphitheater, seen as a symbol of the city, is surrounded by vehicles, with even the side turned into a parking lot. Several of Rome’s mayors have promised traffic control around the site, but so far not only had little success, but damage to the ancient site was imminent. Underground train roar all day long, shaking the ancient wall; exhaust emissions from cars attached to the stone arches; frequent outbreaks of the flood and humid air erosion of brick houses; weeds in the tall eaves roots ... ...
