Rapid and accurate analysis of the degree of coronary artery stenosis, which is extremely important for the treatment and understanding of coronary artery disease. Due to the automation system minimizing deviations and variances in the analysis, the authors used the IBM PC-XT computer to establish a system for automatic and quantitative analysis of the coronary arteries. The film image (35mm) is converted from film to video using an IBM PC-XT computer, digitized, approximated to a centerline, the computer automatically detects the edges, magnifies the X-ray films and calculates the arterial size. Based on the known vessel size, the calibration coefficient between the actual and the calculated size was 0.996 (P <0.01) with an estimated standard deviation of 0.07 mm,
