Robots are expected to play an important role in the field of medicine because the newer robots are more accurate and equipped with sensory systems that provide safety features. Now there are experimental designs in laboratory automation, repair engineering, neural networks, and plastic surgery. In a medical setting, the close interaction between the robotic system and the patient is dangerous. In fact, since all commercial robots are controlled in an open manner, the robots themselves can not perceive collisions with the environment, patients or medical staff. A recent article by P.Finlay discusses the necessity and possibility of robotics in medicine. A study by Fulmer Systems Ltd. has identified more than 400 applications for medical robots.
