The seemingly high level of Vietnam under the leadership of the Communist Party seems unlikely to be a suitable site for a thriving biotechnology experiment. But in the rural areas of a small town called Big 100, the experience of 30 families proves that biotechnology can be very useful and even profitable to developing countries. For 30 years, these 30 families have been using biotechnology to grow potato cuttings and have benefited greatly from them. An average investment of $ 250 per farmer built indigenous labs in her yard and house, where they used tissue culture techniques to breed potato cuttings (from tissue foundations in Peru International Center for Potato Research). Such breeding potato cuttings can earn 100 to 120 US dollars per household per month, which is in rural Vietnam
