Metal elements are necessary nutrients for the survival of living beings. In the process of the development of infectious diseases, the host needs to obtain the metal elements to maintain the normal defense function of the autoimmune system. The pathogen enhances the pathogenicity by acquiring specific metal elements in the environment. In order to maintain its own survival and development, metal elements will be the focus of host and pathogen competition, but also related to the occurrence of the body and infectious diseases. This paper starts with the interaction between Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu and infectious diseases, and reviews its physiological mechanism in pathogens and organisms to provide more decision-making basis for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
